Fear in the body.

Here is a forum for those among us whose mind is cluttered with factoids that border on useless information. It is a place to obtain such information for future reference.

Fear in the body.

If you are afraid of something, what part of your body shows that you are scared? I tend to shake uncontrollably and my heart races 'ten to the dozen' what causes my body to behave like this?

Adrenalin.....your body is preparing to 'fight or flight'. Our programmed response to a perceived threat.

A perfectly normal reaction..

I grab my neck whenever I'm afraid... I started doing it when I became afraid of snakes because the sight of them around someone's neck is what scares me most, and now it's my reflex whenever anything scares me.

i hate reading wiki, it's too confusing with its reinbow of colours, i get so distracted that i lose the plot at the latest in the second paragraph.

one thing i'm puzzled about, you know how sometimes a person freezes completely when frightened. it this not counter productive and self-limiting behaviour?

if i suddenly see a car careening towards me, should i not be leaping out of its way?

parhaps an animal may lose interest to a still target, but what are the odds and why is there no automatic reaction to varied stimuli?

I've often wondered about this, why do we freeze when our first instinct should be to jump the hell out its path  :?:
