fuck. and again: fuck.
blu-ray was killed by its inventor; sony.
blu-ray is obviously the better one of the new dvd formats, and then sony comes up with bullshit like this. how stupid can they possibly be...

I am sorry but I have no understanding of blu-ray, but if it upsets you then I say DEATH TO SONY

Just a little before its time, maybe? Most people aren't willing to pay that much for one of those things yet.

I think it's a superficial attempt by Sony to keep porn away from children. However, I understand that the box has access to the Internet where all the porn anybody could ever want is available.

So, what does HD DVD lack that Blu-Ray has?

i don't think so. look at what happened to betamax video, which was far superior to vhs. this also was a sony concept, and they refused to give release rights to the porn industries then too. porn switched to vhs, and vhs became the world standard. this scenario will play itself out all over again.
i for one don't think it is all that expensive. when dvd was released a decent player set you back WELL over $1000. the first blu-ray players currently available are below that.

in the end it is all about data storage. zeros and ones will always be just that, zeros and ones. blu-ray has a much larger capacity than hd-dvd, the next couple of steps were more thoroughly thought about, and it had the back up of most of the larger film studios.

sex sells. sony doesn't get that apparently. if it had not been for the porn industries the internet would still be text only pages accessible through dial up on a 33.6 modem. if it had not been for porn the dvd would never have as big in such a short time.

I think Beta was also hurt by not having miore hours per tape, although not allowing porn will definite hurt.
