I want to write a nice piece to put in our local paper in memorium for my mum who passed away on 29 October 05. She was not religious and I wanted to express how much she was loved and appreciated and how much we miss her. I dont have any experience of writing such a thing, so wondered if a poem or just some words from the heart would be ok. Is there a set way of doing these entries?

Hayze I'm sorry for your loss of your mum. Mums are the most precious creation.

This is just an idea of putting together something.

This is dedicated to the memory of our loving mum who passed away on...

Give a summary of the type of person she was, her personality, what roles she played in family like being mum, dad, friend etc.

What she did with her life and what she enjoyed doing; how much she loved her family and taking care of them, always there with a strong shoulder.

Maybe list sacrifices she made to see her family through. How did she help in society.

Hope this help in some way or give you an idea. You'd be surprise how much you could write answering these few ...

I'm sure there are no rules about this, whatever you put in the paper will be from your heart, which is what matters.

I have found a lovely site here which you might to look at and these are just a couple of examples of the beautiful wee poems on there:-

Think of her as living
In the hearts of those she touched,
For nothing loved is ever lost
And she was loved so much.

-------------------------------------

One smile for all,
one heart of gold,
one of the best this world could hold.
Never selfish,
always kind.
What a beautiful memory,
to leave behind.

-------------------------------------

Thank you Ohlia, I could write pages and pages. I want it to be all encompassing as a great many people loved my mum and considered her as their mum too.

I found this and think its quite apt

Fond memories
can never be stolen.
Precious moments
carry no cost.
Kindness touches
the soul forever
and whatever will be
will never be lost.

ran it by san and she likes it too. so think this will be what I put in. short but encapsulates how we feel. Hxx
