Fruit and berries

Postby ashes13 » Sun Jul 22, 2007 6:43 am

Having been brought up in Southern Africa I used to have a lot of fruit in my diet. Mango, Pawpaw, Guava, Banana, Mullberry to name a few of the more tropical ones. Included were the usual apples, pears, raspberry, strawberry, grape etc.

Moving to the UK made it hard to keep most of these as part of the norm due to high prices and inablity to find most in everyday shopping.
Instead I was greeted with blackberries, cherries, oranges and things like that.

Recently I have developed a taste for blueberries.
Other popular things around in shops at the moment seem to be pomegranate and the goji berry.

In the ideal world which 3 fruit/berrys do you feel would be best to have on a daily/weekly basic?
Do you incorperate a lot of fruit and berries into your day to day diet? If so which do you have?

I love blueberries too, they are so succulent and flavoursome just now.

My top 3 are strawberries, blueberries and bananas.

I had a nice 'rainbow fruit salad' yesterday from M&S, it had watemelon, gala melon, mango, black grapes and it was delicious.

You cant beat Scottish Strawberries btw , they are HUGE!

I absolutely adore fruit and always have a small bowl of fruit salad with my breakfast, plus one instead of a sugary dessert after other meals. I just buy whatever is in season but with the amazing raft of stuff available in the shops here, I can supplement those with my favourites of melon, peaches and black cherries. My current fruit salad has melon, orange, apple, nectarine, peach, black grapes and pear (in unsweetened apple juice). I'm not sure I could recommend only three fruit to have on a daily or weekly basis, that depends so much on personal taste and availability, but bananas are very good as slow acting carbohydrates and apples are notorious for keeping the doctor away

My favourite fruit is cherries (I love cherries) followed by melon. If I make a fruit salad it has melon, apple, nectarine, plum, grapes, pear and peaches in it.

I have a fruit smoothie most mornings - doctor's orders and all that! It doesn't keep the hunger at bay for long, but I'm told it's good for me. I usually choose bananas, blueberries and strawberries, but I like mango and papaya too.

I love strawberries. A 3-fruit salad ideal for me would be strawberries, watermelon, and pineapple.
